SubDomain or SubFolder as a SEO Benefits

Many of the Webmaster are confuse regarding the seo benefits of using a subdomain or subfolder in their websites. Which are morebenefits subdomain or subfolder?
First of all let me explain you the difference between SubDomain and Subfolder

SubFolder: A folder created inside a folder on your root of the website. its similar to the sub folder you created in your pc hard drive.
Its look like as http://yourwebsite.com/subfolder

SubDomain: A Sub domain is a part of the main directory and is comes as a part of the main domain. Its not located in your root directory.
Its look like as http://subdomain.yourwebsite.com

SubFolder in the terms of SEO get the maximum advantage of the main domain name since its a part of the main domain name. Generally subfolder get all the search engine ranking benefits of the main domain. Like if your subfolder http://yourwebsite.com/subfolder doing well in search engine then this subfolder will give its benefits to the http://yourwebsite.com. and vice versa also.

While in case of SubDomain they are normally treated as a new domain in the eyes of search engines and they normally don’t get any extra advangtage unless and until they are heavily interlinked with the main domain name.

If your main website promoted via Media like television, newspaper etc then its always recommended to create sub domains. Subdomain always look more professional rather than SubFolder.
