Security Tips for Internet Banking Users

Yesterday I heard In Newspaper that Some Hacker stole 1 Lakh INR from his bank account. The victim did silly mistake and he lost 1 Lakh INR. Using your home computer for Internet Banking can be great time saver but it turn into a big nightmare if you compromised with security and you will rewarded with “Victim of Fraud”.

Today Internet banking user’s increases with boost and Cyber Crime also increases in similar manner. So while doing Internet banking, some things you can do to help prevent hacker jobs and give you statistic is to make sure that your personal internet banking details are safe and secure all time.

Great Hacker can easily steal money from you account by attacking directly on Bank servers but Its very difficult job so Hacker attack on internet banking users by fooling them stealing their logon details. Only few smart people can divert this attack.

Here I bring some tips which must be following for every Internet Banking users:

Universal Defense

1. Never login to your internet bank account on public computer.
2. Never login to Internet Bank via an email link. Remember Bank couldn’t send you email with login link.
3. Never reply to email that asks for your personal credit card/debit card or any account number and password. No bank will ask you for these details in an email.
4. Check that the padlock at the bottom of the page shows that you are safe and secure websites.
5. If you fall victim to an attack, act immediately to protect yourself. Alert your bank about the victim.
6. Always use your Bank Account by typing Bank sites directly. If you don’t know the bank site, go and contact your bank personally they provide you all the details.
7. Avoid opening you bank account on public computer or cyber café. If It’s so urgent then read my article “Cyber Café Security” before login, and change the password immediately when you reach your home computer.
8. If someone call you as a introduce themselves as Bank Employee and ask your bank account details, never expose them and report this to your bank personally.

Password Related Tips

1. Make your password Lengthy. Your password should be 8 or more than 8 characters.
2. Avoid Dictionary words in any language. Because Hacker can guess your password by firing dictionary attacks.
3. You login name and password should be different.
4. Combine your passwords with Letters, numbers, and symbols. Use both upper and lower characters.
5. Avoid Sequences or repeated characters – “123456” or “2222222”.
6. Avoid you and your family name in password.
7. Use the entire keyboard in your password. Don’t use most common characters.
8. Don’t use password which is similar to your computer or other social networking sites. Because It’s easy to steal password from your computer and social networking sites.
9. Avoid using online password storage.
10. Don’t reveal your password to others.
11. Never written down the password to some notes, if this notes is lost then its easy for someone to guess your future password according to your previous password.
12. Follow the bank policy, change your password every time when they promoted or you change your password every 10 days.
13. While doing internet banking, change your browser mode to “private browsing”. This will delete your all cookies and files from your computer. All leading browser have this facility like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari.
14. Upgrade your antivirus and browser to new one.
