This question is asked by one of my subscriber in Yahoo Answer. He wants to buy new laptop but he has little bit confuse that which OS is better either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 Operating System? And I think many of you having same confusion.

What is 32-bit and 64-bit?
The term 32-bit and 64-bit are basically a computer architecture that specify how computer stores and make reference to date, memory etc.
A bit has a value of 1 or 0. So binary code can represent as a random sequence of 0 and 1 like 1001001000111. In 32 bits processor we can represents numbers from 0 to 4,294,967,295 while a 64 bit processor can represent numbers from 0 to 18,446,744,073,709,551,615. It means that 64 bit computer can do more calculation then 32 bit computer.
In short, The 64-bit version of OS can handle large amounts of RAM effectively than a 32-bit OS. A 64- bit OS can be more responsive when running several program at the same time and it switches the program more frequently.
Should You Buy 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7?
To install a 64-bit version of Windows 7, your computer must be capable of running 64-bit versions of Windows. If your computer has a 4 GB of RAM or more, then you must purchase 64-bit Windows 7. Otherwise you would go for 32-bit Windows 7.
If you’re going to purchase a new computer then you do not need to worry about 32-bit or 64-bit. Because it will ship with 64-bit Windows 7 pre-installed.
Advantages of 64 bit OS
- With 32-bit Windows, you can use a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, but in 64-bit Windows you can upgrade your RAM to 8 or 16 GB.
- 64-bit Windows is more secure than 32-bit windows. With 64-bit system you can advance security features like Kernel Patch Protection and many more.
- 64-bit can run many complex applications simultaneously. a 64-bit window is more suitable for applications like Photoshop, Video Editing, games, CAD etc.
- In theoretically, A 32-bit Windows 7 can use max of 3.12 GB RAM. But 64-bit Windows 7 can use the full 4 GB RAM.
Disadvantages of 64 bit OS
- Many software and games are still not compatible with 64-bit of Windows.
- Most 64-bit processors are expensive.

In my opinion, the 64 bit is best use for server not for home usage. Yes. 64 bit windows give a optimum speed, however as like you said, there is many home application that still not support the 64 bit.
Agree with Dana, that 64-bit is the best of Server. Even Many servers run only on 64-bit processor.

64bit is the way to go. Most desktops and Laptops now come with excess of 4gb of RAM and to use it to the fullest you need 64bit OS. Most of the post 2005 cpus are 64bit enabled. Moreover the added advantage of 64bit OS though a minor thing is that 32bit viruses dont work on 64bit systems.
I have been using Win 2K8 R2 on my laptop for about 4 months and its working flawlessly. Moreover most of the new softwares come in 64bit fashion too Adobe CS4/CS5, Sony Softwares, Most of the latest games.
So if you are buying a new computer better get a 64bit version of Windows 7.

Iam have alot problem with the website internet explorer they are herrassing me all the time. And i dew not no why.they are blocking me from me getting my email so i chang it and now i cant get all my infofmation from my oid email .ezekiel6262[at]hotmail[dot]com. Everytime i try to upgrade to better my computer they are interfering.
